She has done the study and knows the text. She uses Leni to catch the insider language she stopped hearing twenty years ago.

The problem

Naomi has been teaching for twenty years. The text is not her problem, she has done the work. Her problem is that after twenty years she cannot hear her own language anymore. She says words like covenant and grace without noticing, and half the room nods without understanding, which is exactly what she used to do.

Solution

Before she teaches, she scans the passage and reads the plain version. Not because she needs the meaning, but because she needs to hear how it sounds to somebody who walked in for the first time last week. It shows her the words she is assuming everybody already has.

She keeps the plain versions in her Library. When someone stops her after service with a question, she has language that reaches them instead of the language she has been using since seminary.

Testimonial

"I have been teaching twenty years. I know the text, that is not the issue. The issue is I cannot hear myself anymore. I say covenant, I say grace, and I do not notice that half the room is nodding without a clue, which is exactly what I used to do. I read the plain version before I teach now. Not for the meaning, for the language. It shows me the words I am assuming everybody already has. It makes me a better teacher, not a lazy one."
